Preferred lies

Not so much a review as a recommendation…

Preferred Lies is a book written by Charles Happen – veteran golf journalist, and Mike Clayton – course architect, and tells a wide range of stories in golf joined by a host of contributors, including:

  • Steve Williams, golf’s best-known caddie, who describes what it’s like inside the gallery ropes, having toted bags for some of the games biggest names including Tiger Woods, with whom he won thirteen major championships
  • former US Open champion Geoff Oglivy, who takes the reader inside the US PGA Tour, which he has won eight times
  • Greg Norman, two-time major champion and word number one for 331 weeks, whose flamboyant playing style and charismatic personality earned him a legion of fans around the world
  • comedian and amateur golfer Rob Sitch, who vowed to improve his game when he came to the realisation that twenty-five is not a handicap, it’s a participation ribbon

Horizons Golf Club Championships

The Club Championships will be held in October. The more prestigious Pairs Event will be accompanied by a singles event for both men and women.

Port Stephens Week of Golf

There are a few events we need to keep reminding members about. The NSWVGA has ‘week of golf’ events just about every week of the year. The most relevant of these is the Port Stephens Week of Golf in October . There are more details on this event in the events calendar here. Or visit the NSWVGA website for this and other event details and entry forms.

NSWVGA Matchplay Championship

Played over four days – 4th-8th November, 2019
at Belmont, Toronto, Muree and Charlestown
A graded event you play all four days.

Port Stephens Inter-Club Challenge

The Port Stephens Inter-Club Challenge started on 24th May. Booking for future events can be made in the first instance by entering your name of the sheets at Horizons Pro Shop.

Played at Nelson Bay (24th May), Pacific Dunes (19th July – re-scheduled due to inclement weather) and Horizons Golf Resort (25th July), the clubs are focused on making this event the major regional inter-club event.  A significant perpetual trophy will be awarded to the winning Club after the three rounds.

The final round was held on Thursday, July 25th at Horizons Golf Resort. Check the final results here.

Membership

Apply for Membership

Apply for membership of the Horizons Veterans Golf Club. 

Membership is available to financial members of Horizons Golf Resort who have attained the age of 55 years for men and 50 years for women. A current GA handicap is necessary to participate in HVGC events, but this may be obtained after the submission of five competition cards.

Members must pay an annual membership fee as determined by the Management Committee and in doing so become bound by the Constitution and Rules of the Club and become members of NSWVGA.
